Welcome to the home page of the Lanark Design/Build Group. Since 1990 I have been involved in many projects throughout Eastern Ontario ranging from small renovations and additions to large heritage restoration jobs and the construction of new homes.
In the past I have also provided carpenters on a sub-contract basis at various times to several large builders in Ottawa (Phoenix Homes, Tartan Homes, Cardel Homes, Urbandale Construction, Mattamy Homes, Larco Homes, Ashcroft Homes & Tamarack Homes) doing preparation of homes before occupancy, pre-delivery inspection repairs and also service work after the homes were occupied.
Before starting my business I studied carpentry at Algonquin College in Perth and prior to that was a Plans Examiner for the City of Guelph reviewing plans and issuing building permits for projects under Part 9 of the Ontario Building Code. I am also a graduate of the Landscape Architecture program at the University of Guelph.
I have a keen interest in energy efficiency, sustainable building and “green” building technologies and products – used sensibly. I was first trained as an R2000 builder in 1994 and have always kept informed on energy efficiency and the related building science. I have completed the Net Zero Builder and Net Zero Renovator training courses and am also qualified as a Certified Passive House Tradesperson.
As you can see, I have had significant experience with residential building and I am more than familiar with the business of renovating and constructing homes. The Lanark Design/Build Group is A+ accredited by the Better Business Bureau, a member of the Lanark–Leeds Homebuilders’ Association (and hence of the Ontario and Canadian associations too) and I am a member of Passive House Canada and the Green Building Council of Canada, registered with the RenoMark program and a licensed Tarion builder.
